The unforgettable novel of a childhood in a sleepy Southern town and the crisis of conscience that rocked it, To Kill A Mockingbird became both an instant bestseller and a critical success when it was first published in 1960。 It went on to win the Pulitzer Prize in 1961 and was later made into an Academy Award-winning film, also a classic。

Compassionate, dramatic, and deeply moving, To Kill A Mockingbird takes readers to the roots of human behavior - to innocence and experience, kindness and cruelty, love and hatred, humor and pathos。 Now with over 18 million copies in print and translated into forty languages, this regional story by a young Alabama woman claims universal appeal。 Harper Lee always considered her book to be a simple love story。 Today it is regarded as a masterpiece of American literature。

I think it is a great book。 What makes it great, in my opinion, is that the reader sees the dramatic story of injustice through the eyes of an innocent child who is still learning about the world around her。 It is a different and important perspective。 It makes you think of how a person is not born cruel, but rather brought up that way。

Un libro clásico maravilloso, honestamente se me hizo un poco pesado en algunas partes pero la historia está muy bien narrada y vale la pena leerla

I teach this text to freshman in English I。 Historical context is a must before embarking on this journey。

This book was amazing! It included some pretty heavy topics, but I believe that "To Kill a Mockingbird" is a must-read。 The narrative was excellent!

[Pulitzer Prize for Fiction 1961]A perennial favourite no matter how many times you read it。 The characters are embedded in my mind and are so well written that the movie just made it live that little bit more。

Fantastic, beautifully written book。 Can't believe I left it so long。 Will revisit this story told from young Jean Louis who sees things through child's eyes in a time that lies thankfully behind us。 Her father Atticus and brother Jem come alive through her voice in their sleepy town where bad things happen to good people。 Boo's my hero。 Fantastic, beautifully written book。 Can't believe I left it so long。 Will revisit this story told from young Jean Louis who sees things through child's eyes in a time that lies thankfully behind us。 Her father Atticus and brother Jem come alive through her voice in their sleepy town where bad things happen to good people。 Boo's my hero。 。。。more

If I could capture the emotions I felt while reading this book, I would lock it into a jar and smell it every day of my life。To Kill a Mockingbird is a masterpiece in literary writing and storytelling。 Set in Macomb County in the 1960s, it narrates a small-town story through the eyes of eight-year-old Jean Louise "Scott" Finch。 Jean lives with her brother Jem and father Atticus Finch, a practicing lawyer for the state。 A single father, Atticus strives hard to raise his kids right。 However, when If I could capture the emotions I felt while reading this book, I would lock it into a eight-year-old Jean Louise "Scott" Finch。 Jean lives with her brother Jem and father Atticus Finch, a practicing lawyer for the state。 A single father, Atticus strives hard to raise his kids right。 However, when he has to defend a black man against the rape charges by a white woman- a case that becomes the town's talk, Atticus must take some crucial parenting decisions to set an example to his kids。“You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view。。。 Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it。”Atticus Finch is the star of the story。 The lawyer is not only a successful parent but also a just person。 Be it shooting a mad dog in the street or defending a black man in the courthouse, Atticus does only what his heart wants him to do, thus setting an infallible example for his kids。“They're certainly entitled to think that, and they're entitled to full respect for their opinions。。。 but before I can live with other folks, I've got to live with myself。 The one thing that doesn't abide by majority rule is a person's conscience。”(view spoiler)[His concluding speech in the case gave me goosebumps。 It's a moment that defines the crux of Atticus Finch。 It's a moment that crowns him as the hero of the story。 (hide spoiler)]Scout Finch is another character who crawls into your skin。 The little girl in bob-cut hair goes about asking the most real questions and offers the most succinct and raw insights only the pure minds of an 8-year old can offer。 “I think there's just one kind of folks。 Folks。”Though she's the protagonist and is meant to be the central character, no merit can overshadow a daughter's admiration and trust for her father。 In the altar of admiration that Scout adorns Atticus, everything else pales。“It was times like these when I thought my father, who hated guns and had never been to any wars, was the bravest man who ever lived。”This book is so real and raw that even the secondary characters earn their own spot in the story。 Calpurnia, Finch's black caretaker, single-handedly leads some important scenes in the story。 "Mockingbirds don’t do one thing except make music for us to enjoy。 They don’t eat up people’s gardens, don’t nest in corn cribs, they don’t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us。 That’s why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird。"Then, there's Maudie Atkinson, the next-door single-woman portrayal of a neighbor who is the perfect aunt to these kids and puts to shame anyone who attacks her, Atticus, or the kids。 “There are just some kind of men who-who're so busy worrying about the next world they've never learned to live in this one, and you can look down the street and see the results。” There's another kid in the story, Dil Harris, a neighbor's nephew who comes over every summer。 He and the Finch kids do stupid and curious things kids are notorious for, such as trying to draw out the next-door quaint neighbor, old Boo Radley, who is rumored to be a "scary ghost。" (view spoiler)[That's why, when Boo Radley literally saves Scout and Jem's life in the end, the moment is a metaphor for the kids growing up and seeing the reality of life: people are often quite the opposite of what they're rumored to be。 (hide spoiler)]The parts with Dil in it cracked me up。 Moments such as when he ran away from his house to catch a train to his aunts' place or when he flippantly remarks to Scout, "Let's make a baby。" remind me of the mindlessly rubbish things we often said or did as kids。 Although the book starts slow, it grows on you。 You realize you don't want it to end once you get used to its vibes。 (view spoiler)[As much as it is about the black vs。 white case, it also explores themes of truth, justice, parenting, childhood, and small-town life。 (hide spoiler)]Life, as seen from the eyes of Scout Finch, will send you tumbling back into the yonder days of growing up。 These were simpler times when your days were made of school, family, neighbors, siblings, and friends who came over for the summer holidays。 When your parents' word was final and the gospel truth。 When you felt safe in the world because you knew no matter what happens, you knew they'd be looking out for you。 “It's not time to worry yet”It's summer。 As I sit in my garden and close my eyes, Sissy Spacek's narration takes me back in time。In Scout Finch, I see myself。In Atticus, I see my late father。In To Kill a Mockingbird, I see my childhood。 。。。more

In all honesty, I struggled reading this book。 Nothing happened until 3/4 of the way through。The only interesting bits were the trial and the last two chapters at the end。For me it is a very overrated book and I think for obvious reason。 I think it was just the execution of the story that was the problem for me。

Well this book lived up to the hype in all the ways a literary classic can。 A coming of age story in a broken America。 Riddled with lessons for humans of all ages, I will be thinking about this one for a while。

Genial!

I liked this but sometimes it felt like reading a history book, i think that's why it took me so long to finish it, for me it kinda got a boring at times。 But overall I enjoyed it, i like the way it's written and i like how it makes me feel this warm touch in my soul if that makes sense。 Again I gave it 3 stars because at times it felt like reading a history book。 I liked this but sometimes it felt like reading a history book, i think that's why it took me so long to finish it, for me it kinda got a boring at times。 But overall I enjoyed it, i like the way it's written and i like how it makes me feel this warm touch in my soul if that makes sense。 Again I gave it 3 stars because at times it felt like reading a history book。 。。。more

Oh dear oh dear is this a beautiful book。Nothing much more needs to be said- everyone knows of this book, and everyone should definitely read it at least once in their lifetime。

I read it for a class assignment, but it turned out to be one of the best books I have ever read。 With its page-turning plot, insightful stories on prejudice, and the magnificent vocabulary it processes。 This book I would recommend to anyone。
